Why I joined Sigmas: "Initially, I had zero intention of joining a sorority. I bought into all the stereotypes I'd heard and was already super involved on campus, and assumed that a sorority had nothing to offer me. Man, was I wrong! Upon meeting sisters from all across the US and seeing how friendly, hilarious, fun, and most of all, how strong and independent they were, I immediately knew I'd found a home. I loved that Sigmas' philanthropy is to combat violence against women, an issue I'm deeply passionate about. Starting Sigmas at Rutgers and just being a part of this sisterhood is easily one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in college."

Why I joined Sigmas: "I decided I wanted to join Sigma Psi Zeta when I met sisters from all over the East Coast, many of whom personally came to Rutgers to show what SYZ stands for. I was drawn in when I saw that members had their own different individual goals, interests, and beliefs but were so effortlessly in tune with each other, despite them coming together from completely different schools. I saw a special dynamic that was created by the combined uniqueness of each sister, something I immediately knew I wanted to be a part of. Every single sister I had met was genuine, grounded, and had possessed their own sense of self worth, and in those ways, it made me want to strive to be better too."

Minor: Organizational Leadership

Interests: Reading, traveling, tattoos/piercings, DIY beauty products

Why I joined Sigmas: "I was always interested in Greek life, but I found that a lot of the organizations on Rutgers campus didn't meet my personal needs. I'm pretty quirky by nature, so it’s hard to find a group of women who can understand me as well as Sigmas do! I always wanted to join an organization that allowed for me to express my individuality, while working towards a cause that I found close to my heart: I met both of these needs in Sigma Psi Zeta. I know that if I’m ever in need of a good laugh, a shoulder to cry on, or a new job opportunity, I would be able to find that in my SYZters. We're diverse, intelligent, and often quirky, but we all have the same goals: to Combat Violence Against Women, to empower all our Greek and non-Greek sisters, and to become a more successful and better person. What more could a you ask for?"

Why I joined Sigmas: "The sisters I've met throughout the process of pledging Sigmas and beyond. I've made friendships with incredible people at Rutgers that I wouldn't have known otherwise, and made connections at so many schools I've never even been to. I'm so happy to call each and every one of these girls my sisters and am glad that Sigmas gave me the opportunity to do so. Sigma Psi Zeta redefined my definition of what a sorority is, and has taught me the true value of sisterhood."

When I met the group of girls that would eventually become my pledge sisters, I felt an instant connection. We all had similar interest and values, and always had a blast hanging out! My sisters at Rutgers as well as the sisters I met during rush are the reasons I joined this organization.SYZ has changed my view on sorority life, and I am proud to call myself a SYZter!"

Why I joined Sigmas: "At a school as big as Rutgers, it is important to find that place or group of people you can turn to as your "second home" or your "rock", especially if you're a commuter like I am. Luckily for me, I was able to find that when I decided to join Sigma Psi Zeta. Before coming to college, I thought all sorority girls had to fit a certain personality and image; the type of personality and image that I didn't have, but once I met the women who I now call my SYZters, that idea completely changed. I was first drawn to Sigma Psi Zeta because of the prestige that the organization carries; the history and legacies of diverse, intelligent, passionate, and hardworking women was something I knew I wanted to be a part of. Although there are many other great organizations on campus, the aspect that really separated SYZ from the rest for me was its diversity. Our sisters come from all different walks of life; We are a group of women that probably would not have gotten together otherwise! I have grown close with these women over the years and they have quickly become important components of my life... I couldn't tell you a different group of people who I feel more comfortable with (there goes that saying... "individually unique, together complete!" hahaha)! Before SYZ, I was really quiet and did not speak my thoughts and ideas often, but since becoming a sister, I have gained confidence, and invaluable leadership and organizational skills that I can utilize and transfer to various aspects of my life. SYZ has given me many opportunities and experiences that pushed me to see what I am capable of, and for that, I will always be grateful!"

Why I joined Sigmas: "It's way too cliche to say this, but I honestly believe it: I didn't choose Sigma life, Sigma life chose me. I really didn't think of myself joining a sorority in college from hearing those negative stigmas about Greek organizations, but there was something different about Sigmas. Every sister brings their own uniqueness to the sisterhood. Regardless if you've know them for ten years or ten minutes, they're so genuine and easy to talk to. I've never felt more welcomed in college until I became part of this amazing organization. All the sisters I've met so far have really taught me what sisterhood is about."

Why I joined Sigmas: "I decided to pledge Sigmas because of the sisters! I wasn't 100% sure if Sigma Psi Zeta was right for me, especially since I didn't consider myself a "sorority girl", but after meeting sisters from all over the country and getting to know them, it amazed me how easy it was to talk to them and how down-to-earth they all were. Sigma Psi Zeta is more than letters we wear on our chest, but a real, close sisterhood."
