New Member Requirements

While we would love for everyone to join Sigma Psi Zeta, there are a few requirements each potential new member must meet.

1. Completion of at least 12 credits at Rutgers University (not including AP credits)

2. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7

3. Must be a full-time student at Rutgers University - New Brunswick

4. Must attend at least 1 General Interest Meeting (GIM) and 2 recruitment events

New Member Fees/Sister Dues

New Member Dues dues are $270, which go towards new member materials for ceremonies and the new member process. These fees are comprised of both our national EBOD's requirements and our own chapter requirements. Nothing is used for personal or monetary gain, it all goes towards helping improve and enrich our sisterhood. Our treasurer will also work personally with sisters who may face financial difficulty to develop payment plans.

Anti-Hazing Policy

"Hazing" is defined as any action or situation which includes any mental or physical requirement, request or obligation placed upon any person (pledge, new member, associate member, member, affiliate, guest) which could cause discomfort, pain, fright, disgrace, injury or which is personally degrading or which violates any federal, state, local statute or University policy. Any activity described in this definition upon which the initiation, or admission into, or affiliation with, or continued membership in an organization is directly or indirectly conditional, shall be presumed to be "forced" activity.

Sigma Psi Zeta National enforces a strict non-hazing policy. Our organization's national philanthropy is "to combat violence against women." With this in mind, we are against the disrespect of women in all its myriad forms. The purpose of pledging is to help stimulate a bond between the members of the pledge class and the sisters that have already been initiated. It is a challenge and a commitment during which trust is placed in both the pledges and the sisters. Subsequently, we do not mentally, physically, or emotionally degrade our pledges. To do so would work against the ties of loyalty, allegiance, and dedication that we aim to create and directly undermine our philanthropy.

Alcohol Use/Policy

Rutgers University prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol on its property or as part of any activities, including those sanctioned by student organizations and Greek organizations.

Sigma Psi Zeta National does not condone underage and/or irresponsible drinking in any way. Our intake is a "dry" process, meaning that any use of alcohol by both sisters and new members - even by those of age - is absolutely prohibited. Please read Rutgers' hazing policy and Sigma Psi Zeta's national policies for more information.

Failure by both sisters and new members to act in accordance with these hazing and alcohol use policies may result in charges pursuant to the Rutgers University Code of Student Conduct and/or review by the National Judicial Board of Sigma Psi Zeta.

Sister Expectations

Active sisters are expected to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.6, as well as adhere to both national and chapter standards and expectations.

In addition to our policies on hazing and alcohol use, Sigma Psi Zeta also prohibits ethnic, racial, alcoholic and/or sexist themes in any sort of media promoted or delivered by its members as these go against everything our sorority stands for.
